About 5 years ago, in response to the problems Monarchs are facing, HUCC children and adults planted Showy Milkweed seeds along the west side of the HUCC driveway. The resulting plants produce many seed pods this time of year, and they are now bursting open. Please help yourselves to the seeds and plant them in your yards!
Fall Milkweed seed planting, typically from late September through October before the ground freezes, allows seeds to undergo natural cold stratification over winter and establish roots before spring. If you wait too long, seeds need to go through a simulated winter in your refrigerator before planting them in the Spring. Check out these links for more information.
